Comunidad de Raíces is an organization focusing on development through relationship empowerment in poverty-stricken communities.
In April of 2018, Comunidad de Raices expanded into a low income, high crime neighborhood in Roanoke, Virginia. They host daily after school tutoring, twice weekly neighborhood meals, monthly birthday parties, and monthly projects for the adults and children.
In their own words:
“In our Roanoke, Virginia neighborhood, kids will join rec league sports, and parents will learn how to write a resume and apply for a job. At-risk youth will become mini entrepreneurs through our summer lemonade stand campaign, which will serve local law enforcement to build relationships. Kids will be excited to attend school and receive the resources to make good grades. Our kids will no longer receive failing grades. Inner city will build a better reputation as we bring in regular, committed volunteers. By 2027, we will have transformed five communities. We’re already on our second.”
